Welcome to the 33rd Annual Letchworth Arts

October 11, 12 & 13, 2008
2008 Theme: Magic in the Air
I’m happy to introduce myself. My name is Patricia Hughes, and I
serve as Executive Director of the Arts Council for Wyoming County, which
originated and has produced the Letchworth Arts & Crafts Show &
Sale for 33 years! The show attracts tens of thousands of people from all
over the Western New York area as well as Ontario, Canada. Our small staff
and a host of volunteers keep things running smoothly from year to year,
and it’s always a wonderful experience.
This year’s theme is “Magic in the Air.” Perhaps you
enjoy nostalgia, historical reproduction, or traditional crafts. Or- maybe
you make traditional crafts with a “twist”, adapted with your own
unique vision. Perhaps you enjoy creating altered art or books, or
including found objects in your work. Or maybe your style is “retro”.
Once again this year, exhibitors will be able to enter work to be judged
for prizes in each category, including our special “themed” category.
If you are juried into LACS, you’ll be asked to let this “Magic in the Air”
theme inspire you, and enter the results into our judging. A cash award of
$100 goes to each category winner, and $100 extra goes to the one who
comes out on top as the “Best of Show” winner. The theme doesn’t
influence our jury, however - so don’t worry about including themed
items with your jury images in your application.
If you are new to LACS, we’re excited to meet you! Please read this
application thoroughly, so you will understand what we’re about. If you
are a returning vendor, remember that we began our three-year jury cycle
in 2006, so everyone’s work will go before the jury again this year
(after three consecutive years of initial acceptance, vendors have three
years jury-free - a policy that went into effect in 2006). We will only be accepting digital images on CD this year. Please read the specs inside...
One final note: ACWC makes every effort to ensure vendors exhibiting in
the LAC Show are of the highest quality. Since exhibitors are accepted
based on photographic images, but we have found that often those images do
not represent what is sold in booths, we are now asking for artists or
crafters to include photographs of themselves at work in their studios
with their applications. In this way we hope to eliminate vendors who “buy
and sell” mass produced items, rather than make them themselves. We
thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with this.
Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions about
our show. We are very proud to present it for its 33rd year, and we hope
we’ll see you there!
Cheers,
Patricia A. Hughes LAC Show Director
